It's my brother's anniversary today. He and his beautiful wife, Erika, and their son, Zippy, live in Menlo Park, so I don't get to see them very often, but their love somehow transcends time and space, flowing east over mountains and rivers to reach us here in the little corner of the country. Stevie is only 35 years old, but he and Erika have been together for fourteen years now, ever since they met as students at the University of Vermont. Their love has withstood the test of time and distance and I look upon it with awe and admiration. They seem to know this: that it's worth holding on to what you have, even when it's hard, even when life is challenging, even when the person you love lives somewhere else. I am watching and learning from my beloved little brother and his fantastic wife. Happy sixth, kids.
Connor Thomas O'Brien and his team of soccer shizamo Dutchmen did it again yesterday:
"Tied at 1 in sudden-death overtime, Connor O'Brien boomed one in front of the Baldwinsville net on a restart, and amidst the traffic in front, Chris Connolly banged home the top-shelf winner on the left side at 10:57 and it was pandemonium and a 2-1 victory for Guilderland. "
High five to my talented and adorable nephew, and though I will be in chilly Denver when you play Middletown next Saturday, your cousins and grandparents and I will be there when you and your teammates play in the state finals.
You can count on us.
